As England took control of Group H with a 0-0 draw in Ukraine, Metro takes a look at how the visitors’ century-maker Frank Lampard got on in Kiev as he brought up his 100th cap.
Hundred club
England’s old head – a veteran at 35 – wants to go out on a high at the World Cup next year. But even if England qualify as group winners, and they should now, Lampard’s spot is under threat, with question marks over the Lampard-Steven Gerrard-Jack Wilshere axis in central midfield is working.
Late header goes close
Lampard was definitely thinking of glory with only a minute remaining of this tense match when he stooped to head a reasonable chance just wide. It would have been a nice bonus but both he and his team-mates will be happy enough with a draw.
Frantic start
The Chelsea star struggled to impose himself in England’s midfield, especially early on, with the frantic nature of the match perhaps not surprising when you consider the high stakes. To be fair to Lampard, no England midfielder looked particularly convincing as the hosts made it a difficult night.
